Mine first was a TC PA Hunter flintlock. Still have it today. Bought about 15 years ago or so & has the original 31" 1-66 twist barrel. A gun that TC discontinued manufacturing.

my first muzzleloader was a knight 50 cal. paid $369.00 for it and used it one season , it also gave me a lesson in why you should clean them right away after returning home from shooting.
i let it set in the gun cabinet and forgot to clean it, when i got it out and cleaned it the next year the inside of the barrel had more craters then the moon.
couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 30 yards....lol
seriously...i was shooting 30 yards and couldn't get 2 shots to hit closer then 10 inches from each other at any given time...shot 20 shots and they kept flying all over the place.
i ended up selling it to a friend for parts for $20.00 and went out and bought a new one, since that time i thoroughly clean my muzzleloaders after each time out if it was fired.
it was definately a learning experience

My first was a TC Hawken that I bought at an auction for $130.00. It was right-handed, of course, and as a lefty, I couldn't shoot that thing for squat. When it went off, I could miss deer so far, they just wagged their tails and sauntered off. I "solved" that problem by selling the TC and buying a Hatfield (also right-handed) from Cabela's! Sold that one, too. I finally learned that you could get a flintlock with the lock on the opposite side for a southpaw, so my harvest results have improved somewhat over the last several years.

Mine was a Dixie Gun Works Tennessee Mountain Rifle. I built it with my Dad 30 years ago this year. It has probably had 10K rounds through it and it still shoots as good as the day we finished it. It's got some beauty marks and is a little loose in places now (for that matter so am I ) , but I still try to take some game with it each year. It will be passed to my son when he is ready. GBJ
