I have been using mechanicals since rocket came out with them. I now use the NAP Spitfire and have never lost a deer yet.
But there is always a first time .....

I have shot both mechanicals and fixed blades over the years and harvested many deer with them. However, I would have to say that my preference would be fixed blades. Especially since I switched to Slick Tricks. Like mentioned before they fly like darts.

I've killed a bunch of deer with various mechanicals without ever losing one but I'll never use them again.I honestly see no reason for them.Penetration and durability are both compromised.A bad hit with a big mechanical is still a bad hit.A good hit with a quality fixed blade, especially a 4 bladed head like a slick trick drop deer just as fast.

Fixed for me. I'm shooting 55-56# and I'd rather not have to use energy on deploying blades. Can't say if it would be a problem, but I know the fixed blades aren't. I shoot both Amercan Broadheads and Muzzy 3 blades, and both are good fliers.

Up until the 2005 bow season I used NAP Spitfires(mechanical), but have since switched to Steelforce Sabortooth(fixed blade) Second week of the 2005 archery season I took a shot at 25 yds on a doe and had the misfortune to watch her run away with my arrow stuck in her shoulder (she was shot during opening day of rifle season by another hunter with my arrow still in her shoulder). Spring 2006 I purchased a new bow and switched to the Steelforce broadheads. I love them and will never go back to mechanicals. If I had been using the mechs this past archery season this would not be hanging on my wall today
