i'm one of those ones who wants the next best bow. but when i shop for one speed is the last thing on the list. but i agree with you we don't need the newest and best to be a good hunter. lots of people hunt with their old bows and still have success. ;D

I'm just as gilty mrlongbeard but I think the biggest thing is just letting poeple know that it is not always the latest and greatest thing that will harvest that trophy for ya. All ya need is practice and confidence in the equipment you have and skys the limit.

very well said. just as when gun hunting an old 30-30 is just as good as a 270 wsm if the guy behind the trigger knows what he is doing

All my bows are New bows ...but are not the newest on the market..
the bows I purchase are usually clearance bows or package deals thru like cabelas...
I also shoot exclusively PSE Last year I purchased a PSE firestorm lite on clearance for like 249.00 now that was a steal
I still have my old bow I shoot often as my back up its a f-4 express like 10 yrs old but just as capable in getting the job done

Out of my 7 bows my oldest is 14 years old and it shoots a 400 grain arrow with 65 lbs draw weight and 80% let off at just under 270 fps so it's as fast as today's bow's and more than capable of getting the job done. I'll be getting a new one in a few weeks but being a Staff Shooter for a bow Company has it's advantages .. ....

I think alot of bowhunters get to wrapped up in speed and start to realy on that rather than shot placement? Speed doesnt kill accuracy does! Just my O2

Well put, very well put. The only thing speed does is compensate for our inability to judge distance accurately, it does nothing else. Like someone on here says.."a fast miss is still a miss". I love that saying....

I get a new bow every four years or so.I can't see upgrading every year just to get something new.In most cases, you end up spending a differance of 300-$400 and I doubt that new bow will kill any more deer for you than your old one.

Well said and smart move IMO dougell. I've bought 3 bows from the same local guy in the past years. Every time this manufacturer changes something he has to have the newest version and he sells his 1 or 2 year old bow to fund the next purchase. Yea well.....his loss is my gain..

I bought a new Bowtech last year which replaced my 4 year old Mathers LX.They both shoot within 1-2 fps of each other but the Bowtech had a much longer brace height and seemed a little more quiet.I'm pretty happy staying right around 295 fps. That gives me one pin to 30 yards which is about as far as I need to shoot. As designs improve,I look more at the draw cycle, nock travel, noise and overall shootability.I think the Bowtech was a step up from my older Mathews but I still doubt it will kill me any more deer.

a well placed shoot thru the boiler maker does the same thing if it's going 300fps or 240fps. have never shoot my bow thru the chonograph and don't care to. but my gaurdian shoots around 270fps by my judgement

I have an older model Storm UltraMag. That little bow is a speed monster. 70lb limbs, red rizer with black limbs. To be 33" I've gotten speeds of 319 fps using the older Carbon Express 350 LineJammers. That's moving. I've been asked to sell that bow numerous times. I refuse. I wouldn't sell that bow out of all the other bows I have. Just because it's an older model bow. It looks brand new. If you keep your equipment in good shooting shape. I see no reason to jump on the bandwagon to keep up with the Jones.
