There's been a couple write ups in the "latest and greatest" mags.
Around 1980, at a range near Davidsonville Maryland, I actually fired an electric muzzleloader. Not nearly as refined as the new offerring though. A fella screwed a spark plug into the rear of a muzzleloader barrel & fastened it to a stock. He used an electric wall switch as the trigger and the whole arrangement was hooked to his car cigarrette lighter with a 12 volt extension cord. I think a condensor/capacitor was in there too. Any way, it worked. It was good for around 10 shots until it had to be taken apart and cleaned. And if he dry balled it, the electrodes of the spark plug were pushed together and there would be no gap.
That idea was taken from an inventor from the 1890's that tried to power a car with an internal combustion engine that would run on gun powder ignited by spark plugs.
So, the idea itself is not new. Whether it is sufficiently refined and re-engineered to last and be accepted is another story.
Early powder monkeys were taught to be very careful about the clothes they wore, to make sure they had no nails in the shoes, etc so there would be no static sparks to ignite the powder as they prepared charges for cannon, etc.

How about a battery powered portable model? I guess you would have to experiment with 2A vs. 3A batteries to see which shoots the best in your gun!
