Got mine tilled, starting to plant tomorrow!! Putting in broccoli, beans, maybe some lettuce, melons, zukes, acorn squash, cukes & maters. Will put my peppers in later, pablanos, hungarians & bell. Started some herbs inside, putting in parsley, oregano, basil, chives and cilantro.

Taters , lettuce, radishes, peas, garlic, onions are all up but we sure could use some rain. Water table around here is low for this time of the year. Anyone else having that problem? Bill

Very dry here also, been watering daily!! Cantalope & corn is coming up. MM, do potatoes take a lot of room?? Never tried them, was thinking of putting a few red tater plants in. How many do you need to plant to get a decent amount?? I don't need 50lbs....just enough to try. Thanks!!

Nah! Don't take any more room than mayters, just plant them in hills instead of rows... Some folks just lay them down and cover with straw or toss some in a barrel and as they grow add dirty. When they are ready just upset the barrel and gather your taters. I've never done it that way but been told they do good. That corn coming up may get nipped with frost kinda early for it to be up, we had frost here night before last. MM

three ways to try . dig a trench and plant seed potatoes low and as they grow mound dirt around plant almost covering plant do this two- three times the higher the better. new growth takes place above the seed. another way take old tires and put seed in bottom of tire pack with straw. as plant grows add straw and another tire till high enough. or plant in ground and and add straw around plant as it grows. make straw thick so potatoes grow under straw. this way they grow smaller but easy to dig. add lots of 0-0-46 to grow large potatoes. once you grow your own the rest don't taste the same. ;D red Potomac potatoes are the best

Thanks guys! May have to try this, sounds pretty easy. Besides I'm putting in leeks, will make for some good potato leek soup to freeze for the winter. Just picked up a mess of pepper plants, some chives & asparagus, putting in tonight. 85 degrees out right now, to hot to run the dogs anyway. Also putting in some blueberry bushes where I had some shrubs. My whole yard will be a garden!! I replaced all my flowers with herbs (the cooking kind ;D) already.

Nitrogen levels?? Hmmm, will have to google this subject & see how to test for it & reduce it if that is the problem, seeings how I put in about 75 pepper plants!! My hungarians grew great last year, just my bells didn't produce.

Always had a problem with peppers just wonn't produce. Someone told me about "epson salts". Said to put a handful around the plants I said "oh yeah another old wives tale". Guess what it worked like a charm. No problems growing peppers any more.. Mite want to try it! MM

This year its only 4 beefstake tomatoes & 6 pepper plants. Havent had time to do much else. I used to have an asparagus bed that burned out after about 15 years. Thats on my "to do" list down the road.

Been dry here as well, I put a thick layer of straw down around everything but my maters to help hold moisture (and keep weeds down). Seems to work well, just watering some in the eve.
