ok...everyone has there own way own thinking and i figured i'd see how everyone does there tomatoes.
i prefer my tomatoes to be staked and caged, i suppose that is mainly because i usually grow so many and at times get them rather close in the rows.
i've been known to plant as many as 150 tomatoes and 50 or so peppers, which i also stake up and cage.

Caged mine this year, really helps in storms & keeps the maters off the ground & plants more condensed....I also plant them rather close. Never heard of caging peppers??? I did 50 or more, you use tomato cages or make your own? ??

where i am now i am limited greatly as to how much i can grow, but i still have more then my fair share in the ground ;D
several years ago i was at a store that was going out of business and bought 250 tomatoe cages for $12.00, the manager knew me and told me if i took all they had left she would give me them for next to nothing.
now that was a deal!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

if you don't cage them put alot of straw down to keep them from making contact with the ground

Will have to try the straw. I was just reading that straw & not staking gives a higher yield per plant.
