It seems over the last few years there's been a fascination with this half pint cartridge.... the original .17 centerfire Remington was around for decades, had it's following but never really took the world by storm..then we had the rimfire wars, .17 HRM and the .17 mach II....and now the .17 Fireball...I've watched wildcat versions of the exact same thing at the "HOG" match for years..the guys who have them are either swearing by or at them depending on conditions... WELL, HAVE at it..what's your experiences..GOOD AND BAD...my son the predator master has ZERO kind words for the .17 HRM.... WELL, what do you all think ??

I currently use the 17 HMR for coon hunting and I love it.
I use mine in a Heritage RoughRider wheelgun and find it is quite adaquate for my intended use.
I switched to it a few years ago, due to when I would hit a coon in the head with any of the 22's they would flop around so much after the shot, that I was ruining some good quality fur. Since switching to the 17 HMR a hit in the head results in a stone dead coon, no flopping.

For me the 17 is used when I'm in close and don't need the bigger gun. I have a few areas where houses are close and max range is 200 yards. Otherwise, the 243 WSSM is the gun of choice. I have had no problems with the 17 and it WILL do a good job. ;D

I can honestly say I have used it for squirell and like it. Tried it on woodchucks but not enough oomph... I went back to the truck and retrieved my 22 Hornet.

I think the fascination with the 17 is its kindness to furs. They are usually flat shooting without ripping a pelt to shredds. Bought a 204 early summer and have blown several "hogs" apart, so I guess the 17 mach 4 will be the next project. That reminds me
Dear Santa,
I have not been the SOB I usualy am this year, so............................
