I do alot of coyote hunting. I normally do night hunting and you have to use a red lensed spotlight so they don't get spooked. It works well with all game. Ive walked right up to deer at 20 yds away and have had fox and raccoons come right up to me while calling. I also use a head light with the red lens to do my scanning for eyes. When i see eyes glowing i then use my spotlight. The red lens on my head light will reflect off animals eyes out to 75 yards. even though you may not be able to see the woods light up that far their eyes will glow.
I'd start off with a mouse squeaker. Their cheap and easy to use and they also produce great results. I also carry 2 different mouth calls and a deer call to imitate a hurt fawn. I use to use a electronic caller but never had no luck. I personally do not like them and I believe you get much better results out of hand/mouth calls and could reach further distances if desired.
If you want me to tell you more just let me know

Xtreme, good info. My neighbor and I are planning a three day hunt at the end of the month, I'll take all the info you can give. I know this isn't my post but I'm kinda just jumping in to get some good advice from those that have been hunting them!!

Hey xtreme-Wow that's slick with the headlights. That's the thing, I've gad some tell me to use electronic and others say mouth. I have had more tell me to use mouth calls and such. I'm in the process of working out the green in me with yotes. It's great reading these posts. Any additional tips you have I'd appreciate it. I'm going to be going on a yote hunt myself. Thanks for the great info.
Hey stickman, sounds like your in the same boat as me. Years of experience with other game and back to the basics with a new game. Thanks again for these tips spike and xtreme!

Zodiac, A few years ago I was scouting for A coyote hunt after A fresh snow. I seen where A coyote caught A grouse from behind right in the middle of the road. I would never thought that was possible had I not seen the kill scene, you could see where the wings drug in the snow as he carried it into the brush.

Yeah, stickman if I was a yote I'd starve. I can't hit those buggers with a shotgun either. My miss to hit ratio is not up to par either.

Eldeano, some other info that was past onto me was during the day at least try adding the sound of a flock of crows to your hunt being it may sound like there fighting over a dead carcass and that may draw a curious wanderer in.
