Well, my oldest daughter is finally graduating from college(culinary school) after many, many side tracks. Ole Loggy promised to help her with buyin a car when she "finally" graduated!! I sorta meant her first college attempt but nothing was in writing!! LOL Amazing how they remember ;D
She says she wants either a Honda civic or maybe a Toyota but favors Honda. Say's American cars arent as good. BTW, she was a Ford Salesman for a lil while in her multi-career pursuit. ;D
I own a chevy malibu, GMC Suburban & Chevy Prizm. Tryin to convince her to consider American!!! ;D
What do you all think....are dem Honda's, Toyota's better or whut?? Hey, Kids know best...right!! ;D
Any help appreciated!

IMO foreign cars of any make or model our much better than the domestic cars.
I owned many American made cars over the years that always needed major repairs way before the 100,000 mile mark.
My yougest daughter owns a Toyota. Hasn't skipped a beat yet. Super car all the way around.
My girlfriends daughter is buying a 2003 Nissan Sentra this afternoon. Looks, sounds and runs like brand new and the price can not be beat.
Loggy, good luck to your daughter.

Loggy, that Chevy Prism of yours is actually a rebadged Toyota Corolla.
If there is any question about the difference between Ameican vs Japanese, just check out the reliability ratings in Consumer Reports. They just came out with their annual auto report, so if anyone's curious, buy the magazine.
If it was my daughter, I'd recommend the Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4. Both small SUV's that average close to 25 mpg, have AWD, Stability control and don't cost all that much more than a Civic or Corolla. Figure close to $21-22k for new.
Only problem is trying to find a good deal on a used Honda or Toyota. There resale values are ridiculous. Usually better off buying new once you figure in the lower interest payments you'll be paying for a new car.
For cheaper foriegn models, also look at the Mazda Protege, Nissan Sentra and Chevy prizm's(discontinued last year). I've seen great deals on the Chevy Prizm just because it doesn't say Toyota which it really is.

Yeah, i noticed that on at least the used hondas...a new is only a couple grand more than a used 2 or 3 yr old model. Amazing how they hold their value.
Not right when the kidos have a better car than the parents...whut ya think?? ;D

I have owned a Pontiac Sunbird, a Nissan Maxima, a Geo Prism, a Buick Regal and a Ford Explorer(current) and the best car I ever had was the Prism. So I am going to have to vote for Toyota...and I am a GM Girl...lol...when I get out of school I am getting a Chevy Avalanche

I have only paid for one of my vehicles, my dad bought the other ones and the one I bought was the Geo which I got for $400 because it needed a new front end. My dad bought a complete one for $25 from and impound yard and switched the frontends so I had a decent car, then I had to go wreck it a year and a half later, but when I finally buy a brand new car its gonna be a chevy...Now Willy prefers Toyota he said because they are tough, buts thats ok he don't need to drive my car

My youngest daughter in her 2nd year of college is driving an 1995 Volvo 850 i bot her after she rolled my dodge spirit & totaled it. Was only driving for 2 weeks ...thank God just cuts & scratches. That Volvo is heavily built like a tank but the newer ones are priced pretty darn xpensive. My "USA of A" American Pie Chevy Prizm has Made in Japan stamped all over the place...engine, trans etc. WHUT! ;D "US of A Skin" & rest Toyota...go figure. ;D

Most Toyotas are made in the USA anyway. Mark Amen Mark! I read an article in the USA Today last week on that topic. In fact, some good Ole USA of A cars had more foreign content & labor than the Foreign (name) cars! ;D Sorta like the Browning jap made rifles & shotguns! Buck, thanx for your advice etc given... via PMs. My next truck when replacing my 1988 GMC will likely be another GMC though...probably made in canada or mexico now! ;D
