I think the bigger issue is the fact that GWB does not want Karl Rove to put forced to answer questions under oath, and have to tell the truth. Why doesn't Bush cut Rove free? What have GWB or his close advisors done that is so illegal or wrong that he is petrified of people having to tell the truth.

Rove is a political advisor. Presidents all have them, if they are to be able to speak and advise the President on issues with all candor, then those conversations should not be subject to subpeona power. How confident would you be speaking with a lawyer if you knew the lawyer could be supeonaed and forced to tell the conversation.
I understand why the confidentiality is needed, but of all the places Bush could draw a line, this is a stupid one. If one of those eight was fired to protect a Republican from an investigation, by all means it was wrong. But then on the other hand,, all a prosecutor has to do is investigate a member of the President's party and they get life time job security??? That would be just as wrong. Investigate one on each side and he gets a lifetime job???
The Dems have also picked a stupid place to start an investigation. I suspect they realize there will be no winners on the anti war debate, so they picked this to divert attention from the war. I hope this comes back to bite them all in the arse.
Interesting, slick willy subverts the judicial system by intentionally lieing under oath and folks don't see a problem with his kicking the justice system in the butt, and when GW fires 8 of the 90+ folks he has a right to fire, the Dems get all worried about the integrity of the justice system.
Remember the white water billing records that Hillary testified under oath that she didn't know where they were. 2 years later they were found in a White House closet. She is a perjurer as well.

Getting more interesting. 3 weeks of missing emails. Could they try any harder to make people suspicious. www.politico.com/news/stories/0307/3227.html In DOJ documents that were publicly posted by the House Judiciary Committee, there is a gap from mid-November to early December in e-mails and other memos, which was a critical period as the White House and Justice Department reviewed, then approved, which U.S. attorneys would be fired while also developing a political and communications strategy for countering any fallout from the firings. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a member of the Judiciary panel, noted that six of the eight fired prosecutors were involved in corruption investigations focusing on GOP lawmakers or officials, and she questioned whether the firings were an effort by Republicans to protect their own. After fighting off GOP attempts to alter the bill, Senate Democrats on Tuesday pushed through legislation that would revise the Patriot Act so that Gonzales or his successor does not have the power to unilaterally appoint U.S. attorneys without Senate confirmation. The legislation, sponsored by Feinstein, passed by a 94-2 margin, with only Sens. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) and Kit Bond (R-Mo.) voting against the bill.

Tater, from what I gather, It's different because some of these prosecuters were investigating Republicans. If that's proved, it will mean the WH used it's influence to quite investigations into illegal activities of Republicans and I beieve that's against the law.
I also believe that Clinton fired one of the prosecutors looking into the Whitewater scandal. That also should have been investigated. We just can't let these politicians influence our judiciary system.
Either way, I'm hoping that both parties are so busy fighting each other over this that they won't have any time to pass any new laws. Seems like every new law passed during the last 10-15 years, hurts us more than helps us(for examample, NAFTA & CAFTA).
