i have been seeing alot of these for sale lately, anyone know why so many are being sold?
are they junk or have issues that make buyers not like to fool with them?
i am leaning towards getting a Lyman great plains but if all else failed i had thought about a firestorm because i have been seeing them sold as low as $175.00 in good used condition.
should i stay with my first choice and shop around until i can find one reasonalbe, or is a firestorm something to consider as an option?

I personally love my TC firestorm.
The Firestorm can be a little tempermental in regards to consistanly going "BANG" when you want it to.
I myself have had a couple misfires with it, 2 on this last hunt alone, but I know that a flinter is not the most reliable ignition system for a firearm.
I don't have any plans to trade, sell or whatever my Firestorm.

its just that i have seen alot of them for sale lately, as mentioned above i even know where i can get one for $175.00, maybe because its black synthetic and blued barrel?
less fancy, less price being used?
i have read on the board about some people drilling out the touch hole some to help with misfires, don't know if it will help you but it may be worth looking into.

I owned a Firestorm for about 5 years & sold it.
Its a well made gun but first off...you are stuck with a 1-48 twist bbl which isnt the optimum twist for either round balls or conicals. Have found that the slower twists are far superior for rbs plus same goes for faster being better for conicals. It shot half decent & is a quality TC product that meets many hunters expectations.
There are no drop-in bbls available with either slower ior faster twist. Nice cause it has a removable breech plug though.

I am no expert if you want to stay traditional and shoot Patched round ball look for a flinter with a 1 in 66 twist if your going to shoot conicals look for a 1 in 28 twist
As far as the firestorm goes I have the traditions version Pa Pellet It took a while to find a load it liked

Replace the frizzen with a better one and drill out or replace the ventliner with an RMC. My Lyman 50cal 48twist flintlock goes off everytime and is accurate with a number of projectiles from RB's to Maxi's to sabots. Thompson frizzens are, in my opinion, a little soft.
