I owned the rem 700 Classic 35 Whelen that was mfg for the 1988 year Classic caliber. Rem since offered the 35 Whelen in their CDL line. Anyone ever own one or know of other companies that offer the ole 35 Whelen? Its one gun I wish i wouldnt of sold!

I have over the years owned the 8mm06 and the 35whelen which is really the 30-06 necked up to 35cal.both were on 98 mauser actions.my opinion both calibers are premium pa hunting cartridges, yet both were never accepted by the public.

I own a .35 whelen in the Remington CDL and also a Remington pump that was rebored to 35 caliber from a 30-06 factory barrel. I love both guns dearly and they put a real hurting on anything that gets hit by them. I just had my CDL to the range on Saturday I shot a box of the Remington 250 grain soft points and at a 100 yards I had 5 shots within approx. 1.8''. This is starting to become my go to hunting rifle especially with the new Nikon Monarch 3x9 glass I put on top of it. I will be taking it to Quebec this spring in search of a Black bear I am curious as to the hurting it is going to put on on a bear.

kyle, that rem cdl seems like a great gun. Im sure that 35 250 grain will receive lil refusal from a black bear! ;D
Thats my next hunt for sure...a Spring Canadian Bear hunt. Hey, best of luck & be sure to report back ur hunt!

My nephew has a Rem pump in 35 Whelen. He has knocked over a few deer with it and his stepson got his buck this year with it.

I put together a Whelen CDL with a Remington TI stock (24oz), talley lightweight mounts and Leupold 2.5x8. Full-up the rifle weighs 7lbs loaded. Recoil is sharp, but bearable with the new R3 pad. I shoot max loads of Rl 15 with 225 and 250 grain bullets. The 225 Noslers chrono at 2740 and will stay under 1". I really think the Whelen is a handloaders cartridge. The old Federal bearclaws and the Nosler ammo is loaded up to decent speeds, but the Federals are discontinnued and the Noslers are very pricey. The Remington factory loads are grossly underloaded, because of all of the old conversions in service. If you want to shoot a 35 thumper with factory ammo, the 350 mag is probably a better choice. Just my 2 cents.

That's a fine cartridge....more than capable of taking out anything in this state for sure...it's almost like the first of the beltless magnums...I sure wish "BIG GREEN" would offer them in the synthetic stocked 7600's again..missed the oportunity the last time and just don't like the feel of wood anymore...GREAT Cartridge..too bad it didn't catch on as much as it should have.

Yeah Frank, I wish too the 35 Whelen woulda caught on more. The very limited factory ammo offerings certainly didnt help.
Good point on the 350 Mag there stoneybroke. If i remember its ballistics are very comparable to the 35 Whelen.
