reading his latest article on deer cartridges. he's saying get rid of the 7mm wsm, 300 saum,300wsm,325wsm,444 marlin, 7mm mag, 300 win mag, 405 winchester. he's saying drop a lot of good cartridges that dropped a lot of deer?

There's also alot of gunwriters..maybe we should drop him !!!! After all look at what Zumbo had to endure over a comment of black rifles in the hunting woods..here in PA no one would even care about the comment since we can't use them anyway!

very true. for years boddington claimed the only gun were the big bores for elk, deer etc. guess he's had a change of heart. he also claims the 270 win is the top of the class. a great round but not the only round. 30/06 comes to mind. can't think of another bullet with so many choices of bullet weight. just one mans opinion.

We live in a society where, thank God we have the ability to make choices. If the gun manufactures want to dream up more gimmicks to sell more guns, let them do it.Truth be told, there are a few choices that could cover almost all the bases.I've killed a bunch of deer with the boring .308 and I doubt I'd have kiled any more if I didn't have other guns to use.I'd never be without a .308 and it's usually my first choice even though it's consistancy is somewhat monotonous. It just work.Still,I like to tinker and I had to by a new 300 wsm when they first came out.I didn't need it then and still don't need it now but I like the concept behind it.I can load it up so it can handle anything with ease that I'm likely to hunt and it still drops deer with authority when I load it down just a pinch so it's like a 30-06 on a little juice.America likes guns and there's no real reason to have a safe full of one caliber.

The one nice thing about the Boddington article is that it reminded me of arguments I would have with my two friends on the school bus. I was pro 30:06. Another, .308 and the other friend was pro 30:30. I've never shot a deer with a30:30. But in the EAST. I would say a 30:30 gives the right amount of velocity/energy with a nice expanding bullet. I've seen video of Boddington hunting East woods deer. He is definitely a Western deer hunter. His choice of calibers in the article seem to indicate the same. Now my friend who was pro 30:30 has ended up shooting most of his deer with, of all things, a .270.(what does he know. he also thought I was dumb for wanting to date his sister. I've been married to this lovely woman for 26years). Back to Boddington. On the whole I like his articles. Nice mix of humility and adventure. But us Eastern hunters could teach him alot about East woods deer hunting. Wasn't it in the same magazine where I just read an article about deer hunting with the black rifle? Hmmm.

Craig Boddington wrote that article to collect his paycheck. He states that although good those calibers could be replaced. I personally feel the best deer caliber I ever used is my .300 Win mag with 165 handloads. Fortnately we can still disagree here and enjoy doing it.
