Their being shipped as I type, the day long awaited for has finally arrived !! They are going to change the face of long range hunting rifles "off the shelf". The new stock, the flat forearm and straight stock offer alot of custom gunsmith features...the SAVAGE bolt actions are extremely accurate to being with and this new .264 bullet has superior down range ballistics...the velocity should be around 3000 fps with the 140 grain but that long thin bulllet will keep the velocity up down range. For years long range bangers have been waiting for one of the companies to offer a real rifle that they could use and now SAVAGE has answered the call..a big CONGRATS to them... Anyone of you that love to watch ole strip cuts or side hill to side hill will love this rifle, right off the shelf with no wait...the trigger will adjust down to 6 ounces... My understanding is that they are going to offer them in 6 BR later...I'll be owning one in that cartridge without question..

If I was going to sneak one of those in to the house. Would it be the 6.5-.284 or the 6BR? I guess to be more specific. How are the two cartridges different?

ONAGER....there are two major differences, the 6.5 uses a .264 diameter bullet and the 6BR uses a .243 diameter bullet..they are not out yet in 6BR only the 6.5. I'm a benchrest competition shooter and see both of these cartridges used out to 500 yards all the time by great shooters.. The 6.5 has an advantage in my opinion when it gets a little windy and if you want to shoot much further or are hunting with it, greater energy. The 6BR has better bullets in my opinion and is not as finckey to make em' shoot in competition, the bullets are not off the shelf regular ones but competition types.. the 6.5's are found around the 140 grain area and the 6.s up around 110 grains or so.... The case capacity is very different...the BR case is much smaller and uses a small primer compare to the 284 case..it's also much more accurate at closer ranges because of it's design..the .6.5 seems to shoot the same size group from 200-600...they are capable of shooting inch and half groups at 500 yards..they also are used alot in 1000 yards benchrest and do quite well..the only draw back is when you load em up to get the velocity up they burn out the barrel faster than the little BR..I have friends that tell me they can ruin a barrel in 1000 shots..but for hunting in PA that cartridge would last you a life time...overall they should be a big hit in the long range deer fields and farms and hog shooting, especially when you consider what you get for about $900.00 or so.. I think you'll more than likely see "BIG GREEN" offer something similar but it'll take them a year like usual and then complain about the markey being taken by someone else... This rifle from SAVAGE offers just about everything you need right off the shelf for a serious step in the long range direction.. "THANKS" for SAVAGE finally taking the step.
