Ok guys, I like to try my luck again at these baitcasters, I love the way they feel in your hand, but I would really like to hear what you would recommend, but I don't want to spend a fortune so lets hear about your least expensive baitcaster that performs well, I don't care how long ago they were made, if it’s a good one I'll find it on E-Bay. I posted this on a few forums Thanks Joe

Hay joey first thing dont buy a cheap one get one around $100 or more the cheap ones will get you frustrated fast buy one with both cast control they have pins, and magnetic this helps with bird nest get a stiff rod longer the bettter i say i use 7ft plus and buy cheap line at first 10lb to 12lb works best because you will go throw it and remember pratice pratice pratice it took me a year to get it but i still get bird nest. i have two quantum tour edition pt one old, one new from this year the new broke already sent it back because it was made it china but i do alot of fishing four times a week and tournaments. shimano are great but high priced and will last, pflueger has a new one called the summit looks good heard alot of good things about it . well good luck p.s just my 2 CENTS. BRIAN ;D

Agree with GRD especially favor the shimano calcutta line. If ur trying to stay under $100 take a look at the Abu Garcia 5500c's. They are well made. I own a larger 6500C that has served me well & is still going strong. The ole backlashes arent much of a problem anymore with the magnetic backlash control & various types of centrifugal mechanisms. The 5500 design has been around forever & is easy to tear down. The 5500C goes for around $75. I believe they are still made in Sweden.

Is the 6500c a good Muskie reel? It would be excellent. I used on 15-20 lb stripers & know guys that takem to Canada each year for large pike & muskies.

I was introduced to the 6500C3 reels about 6 years ago. I now own 4 of them. Outstanding reels for the $$....
