I started fishing with a mitchell 300 in 1962 and still have it. I don't use it anymore but still use Mitchell reels. I have the 300X series.

Im finding that some of the best reels today are jap made. Shimano Calcutta line etc. They also mfg in china, korea etc. but per my experience jap is best. Same goes for highend daiwa line.

Can't beat Shimano spinning reels. Rear drag and one finger casting is way cool. Going to Cabela's in two weeks to pick up the Shimano Spirex rear drag and one finger casting reel, along with a 7 ft. ugly stick to start the season off with, that and my UL ugly stick and Shimano UL reel. In fact, going to Nockomixon for the weekend for my B-day in late April. Can't wait. ;D It's almost scary living within a 30 min. drive from Cabela's.

I'm a die hard Mitchell user, but I have no complaints about Shimanos. Excellent reels!!
