You know at one time they were the rage of the shooting world..seldom ever heard or discussed in shooting circles today...about the only time you ever see or hear of them is when you walk around at a big gun show and scratch your head at the prices they are commanding!!! How could such a so-called fine rifle suffered so greatly in the 80's, 90's and in the 2000's...

Three or Four years ago I had a buddy died and left his wife with a pile of *pre 64* model 70 . I was a 458 African grade only made something like 600 of them.. I help her withan action sale.. The 458 brought $3800.00 dollars... When the sales was over she cleared over 40 grand......Never forget she had a Stevens double 410 new in the box dang thing brought over $3000.00 dollars. Just goes to show what happens when two people want something... I keep telling my wife something happens to me call in the actioneer. And run everyone else off witha broom.. MM

Amen on the safties! My dad hunted with his model 70 for years never an issue with the safety. Then after hearing a shot from my Dad's direction late in the day. I met him back at the truck. He still had that "I think I messed my pants look on his face" He was walking down the trail and reached back to adjust the sling as it was slung over his shoulder. The gun fired, with the muzzle pointing behind him. Now we had walked single file for countless times to and from stands together. That safety is scary. So my son who was along on the hunt and saw how shocked his grandfather was, has the rifle now. Very cautious young man. I trained him repeatedly to not keep a round in the chamber when walking. That gun is a shooter but demands caution

I own a Mod.70 in 7MM Mag ,and Im not to fond of the Safety! I like a Tang Mounted Safety, like the older Mod,77 Rugers, I wont buy a M77 Ruger Mk II,because of the Winchester style safety!

:)And i thought i was the only one that disliked the safety on the model 70.i had a mod 70 in 300HH in the early 1960s and i found the saftey in the fire position several times while carrying it on my sholder with a sling. (didnt like that ) switched to rem. 700s and never looked back.
