Any of you guys from the eastern side, mainly Chester co. I am having a kids fish day at my house on April 14th and 15th. Basic idea is to get kids away from the video and computer games for a day or two and get them outside. If you have no gear or have never fished before you are welcome. Trout rods will be available for use, bait will be here, and lunch will be provided. Need anymore info, just ask. Either send me a message or e-mail at stormdecoys@comcast.net. I have 50 brand new rods here and hopefully the kids that don't have rods will be able to keep them.

I will let you guys know how it goes. We did it a couple years ago, just small, about 50 people. Worked out all the kinks and hope it is much bigger this year. Really not that hard to do, but the kids really enjoy it and that's all that matters to us. Me and two of my buddies flipped the whole bill last time, this year we got a few sponsers to help us out with the costs. It's amazing how quick people are to give you a few bucks when it's all about the kids.
Shakespere fishing company helped us out alot. They shipped me 50 rods and 50 reels already strung up for under $300. The reels are not junk either. All metal gears and the rods are 5 foot fiberglass, they have a special pricing guide just for events like this. Really got a great feeling about this company giving back to the community.

I am telling you guys its not that hard to put something like this together. All you need is a pond with good water flow, a trout hatchery, and some kids. I have pics from last year when it wasn't that big, but don't know how to post. I can send them to someone if they want to see.

Sorry it took so long to get back, but we had our derby on Sat. the 14th. The only problem was it was supposed to be a weekend event, but the nor'easter changed all that. I don't know how to post pictures, but duchunr was here and maybe he will if he has a chance. We stocked alot of fish and the kids had a blast. We estimated about 100 different kids througout the day, we gave away 35 fishing rods to kids that didn't have any, and went through about 30 jars of power bait. I didn't see too many kids that didn't catch at least one fish. Biggest of the day was a 24 inch rainbow, caught by a 11 year old amish boy. We have a picture of the fish , but not the kid(amish don't pose for pictures usually). Took him at least 10 minutes, maybe more to get him in. Over all we think we fed over 200 people throughout the day and most people caught fish, a good many kids that were there had never fished before and that's really what we need to do, get these kids involved in the outdoors.

Great job! We have youth hunts for ducks and geese, and pheasant. Alot of the kids stick with it after their first hunt. I believe that just one event like this will get many of them into it for life.
