Each year we vote at camp. I will also keep a trout if, after release, it becomes apparent that the fish will not make it.

I never eat stocked trout. Every now & then I will keep a native. Trout are way down on my list of fish i like to eat. Mainly catch & release. Enjoy the battle they provide on lite tackle.

keep afew to eat, give some to the people who let me hunt their land, also smoke some for gifts to land owners. the older folk are always very pleased with the fish.

Out here in Montana I am strictly catch and release.. occasionally I will "Bank" a sucker if I catch him in a trout stream.. And, sometimes I get really disgusted with the Mountain Whitefish that are taking over our rivers and streams and do the same with it.. Whitefish are much more prolific egg layers and can quickly take over a river.. They won't push out all the trout, but they certainly compete with the available space... And, I just believe that wild trout are simply too beautiful to kill and why not allow someone else the joy in catching it and appreciating it. I quit spin fishing many years ago.. Spinners and lures are simply too lethal to trout... I caught what was once a very big rainbow with an emerger that had the whole bottom half of his jaw on one side ripped out by someone, (pretty sure who he is) by kneeling on the fish on the bank and ripping the treble hooks out of his jaw with a pair of pliers.. The rainbow was still close to 8 lbs, but he was over 10 when he was caught and released. (It was all catch and release on that stream) When I am fishing one of these grerat rivers here and stop and look at the magnificiient scenery surrounding me, it just seems wrong to work so hard to present the fly right, catch the rise, set the hook, play the trout carefully, bring him to the net, then kill him. I just can't do it. But , I have no problem with anyone keeping trout to eat, if that is what they want. I simply would rather have Walleye, Pike, or almost any other fish for taste.. Leep:
