You can't start fishing until 8 a.m. on the first day of trout. What time do you arrive at your favorite spot? What do you do to pass the time until that first cast?

I'm one of those insane guys that is there at 4:30 am....not that I'm scared I won't get my fish...I just really like my traditional spot...lots of good memories...so I have to get there that early to save it because the pressure is so intense there. Some guys really hate the heavy pressure, but I look forward to it because of the excitement and the good guys you meet. I see some of the same guys every year...I don't ever remember their names, but we reminisce about the year they got that big brownie, or the year it was flooded, etc...lots of good natured ribbing... and it all makes for a really fun day.

I don't usually go the first day, because of the crowds. I like to hit it around day break on the Sunday after the opener.

Great attitude Jake. Most of us old heads get frustrated with crowds in general. I think it's a growing older thing in general. Just tired of the hustle and bustle. I'll probably go opening day primarily because of having a bad case of cabin fever. I need to get out there and get my line wet.

I don't go opening day anymore either.....usually wait for an evening during the week when it's slowed down a bit. Used to go about 6AM when I didn't mind the crowds.

Usually around 6:30, theres one spot I like to get into first thing been fishing that spot for 7 yrs. now.
My father and I stand around and B.S. about past years usually put a bet out there .50 for the first fish and .50 for the biggest
Afternoon I then head to the little Shenango river, theres tow spots I try to fish down there if I can get in them...
Last year There were a lot of guys still there when I arrived talked to a few which said it was very slow and they didn't think it was stocked only seen a few fish caught all morning, there is a deep hole (old swimming hole) where about 7-9 guys were spread out around all using bait so I thought a little and notice no one was throwing a rooster tail, so I put on a white one and on my 2nd cast WHAM ! fish on... over the next few casts I caught a few more I never saw so many guy fumbling thru their tackle I actually started to chuckle..I announced the color is white, it was nice to hear all the thank yous.. as a matter of fact one gentleman said man you just saved my skin the wife wouldn't have believe I was fishing all morning ...
I don't mind the crowds I actually like watching all the different styles, guys are fishing....never know when you may need to try something else or another type of presentation

sqwirl, sounds like you got a nice little set-up . used to go down about 6:30, 7:00. and pick our spot and stand around bsing, but couldn't stand the ones that came in 5 min to 8 and dropped their line right smack next to mine . don't like the crowd anymore, so depends on what the weather is like also, usually will go sometime during the week ;D.
