SPRING TROUT STOCKING CANCELLED AT LAKE PEREZ March 25, 2008 Spring trout stocking has been cancelled at Lake Perez in northern Huntingdon County due to a drawdown of water levels for the purpose of structural repairs to the dam. As a result of safety concerns, activities in and around the lake will not be permitted during the period of the drawdown. This includes shoreline fishing. Therefore, the preseason stocking and the spring inseason stocking of adult trout have been cancelled for 2008.
Water levels in the 72-acre impoundment are currently 10 feet below the normal pool and may require an additional drawdown in order to complete the necessary repairs to the dam structure. Repair work is scheduled to occur during the summer with the hope of restoring water levels in time to permit fall trout stocking and fishing.
The lake is owned by the Pennsylvania State University and operated as part of the Stone Valley Recreation Area. Each year, the Fish and Boat Commission stocks the lake with adult trout during the spring, fall, and winter periods to provide recreational angling opportunities. In addition to stocked trout, there are opportunities for anglers to fish for largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and yellow perch.

That's a shame. Lake Perez (AKA Stone Valley Lake) always recieved some very nice fish....even before the Telico, NC fish. I used to help stock the entire northern end of the county and I've seen many monsters go into that lake...a number of underwater springs feed the lake and sustain the trout through the summer months...the locations of those springs are a well kept local secret. Hope for return to normal for next year.

It is ashame. Trout Angler and anglers in general are loosing fishing opportunities every year and PFBC can not seem to find the funding needed for repairs or improvement. for example Dutch Fork Lake in Washington County has been empty for years.... because of damn issues and the last i read 4 million was needed to correct. This was a wonderful lake and many others like it are falling victim to this as well.
