The 25/06 is an awesome cartridge!! It shoots more than flat enough that if you had the rifle sighted in deadon at 100 yards that it would not drop enough to miss the vital area of a bear at 250 yards.. being in on about a dozen or so bear kills in my life I've noticed that some of them show no sign or little sign of actually being hit, unless you break some major bones..the thick layer of fat and super long hair can suck up alot of blood...I hope that you followed up those shots...not seeing or finding a blood trail means little in the bear woods...that being said..you'd be hard pressed to find a better dual purpose cartridge..it'll reach out and touch any varmint well in excess of 600 yards with plenty of power to kill any of them and it's more than enough for 500 yards plus deer with ease...my bother bought one of the first ones ever produced back in the late 60's when we were kids..the old commanders (dad)..first reaction.."IT'S to fast for deer".when he whitnessed a few instant in their tracks kills he changed his mind in a hurry... it's still in use to this day..the X-bullets' and partitions make it an awesome big game cartridge...don't sell it short, it's kill rings around any 6mm and it on par with the .270..modern bullets and I'd take on just about anything with one.....
