OK folks, last fall I put a pond in and now I have to finish it, water is up and time to sow the grass.... Anyone have any idea what to sow down on the banks, what kind of fish to stock and where to purchase them... Keep in mind the pond has a good flow of fresh water, it's about 10 feet deep and 1 acre in size. Now keep in mind old MM isn't rich and would like to fish in it before he dies! This should get interesting. MM

MM, I can talk to a buddy who put a pond in 3 yrs ago, he now has some very nice sized fish in it. Species, I imagine would be personal preference. John has bass, perch, gills &bullheads, he also has some koi to clean it. The perch are very nice right now, 10" & up, nice gills & bass @ 14-15", cats grew very quick. I know he threw some cut trees & an old spring from a boxspring mattress (he burned off the mattress) to start some quick cover & had fish breeding already. He put minnows in and supplement fed chow throughout the summer the first 2 years. If there's any specific things I can ask him for you, let me know, his pond is doing great!

Sure would like to know where he bought the Bass, and the gills. I have found anywhere close. Trout is no problem but they don't do well in warm water..... I like to get something that does well all year round. Went this morning and got a pasture mix seed for the banks, I figured deer would like it well. Mixture of clover, trefoil, and grasses. MM

Zetts Fish Farm in Drifting PA 814-345-5357 for info & catalog. They deliver and he said stock fish of different species in appropriate sizes so they don't eat each other right off the bat. (4" bass will eat 4" perch) Hope this helps!!!
