what the strangest thing you caught while fishing. while fishing below the route 62 bridge over the Allegheny river i thought i had a monster on but when we got it in the boat it scared the daylights out of me. it was a hellbender lizard about a foot long. the ugliest thing i ever saw.

While fishing the Allegheny River down by Lock #3 Dam with mrlongbeard, I thought i had a stick on my line but as I reeling it in, it was long and white and had 1 blue eye and was missing the other eye! and had a long, long nose!!! mrlongbeard said it was a Gar!!! ofcourse neither one of us thought to bring a camera! I just cut my line and let him go!!

Hmmmm......caught a Gar on a chicken liver once fishing for cats at night. Caught a large Eel off the ore docks years ago, and lots of Mudpuppies ice fishing, quite ugly things. Think the nastiest thing I ever caught though was a Lamprey eel attached to a Sheephead off the mouth of Elk Creek.

Zodiak, I was just going to ask you "what is a sheep's head doing in a creek?". .....until mrlongbeard told me that a sheephead is a fish! I don't know my fish like I do my game animals ;D

Sheephead are a nasty in themselves.......pretty much inedible and always seem to swallow the hook!! Have caught a few big ones that fought well though.

Their meat is as white/flaky as haddock. Its a fish that the skin is as tough as leather plus it would be pretty ugly to eat! ;D
