This will be my first year using a Horton Crossbow or any crossbow for that matter and wanted some advice on what I should use.
I have been shooting the NAP Spitfire out of my compound and have never had a failure of any kind with them. Was wondering does anyone use them with their crossbow.
So lets hear what everyone uses and bring this rookie crossbower up to speed...

if you already have spitfires i would use them, they should be fine
personally i won't use anything under 100 grains, but far as type of head its a matter of personal preference.
heres Hortons toll free number 1-800-551-7468 in case you would like to talk to them and get there input as to if they will be ok to use.
i call them whenever i have any questions and they are always very nice and as helpful as possible.

pps,ill get ya all setup.i personally wouldnt use any type of expandables espec with a crossbow..i use 100 grain 3 bladed muzzys they work great out of my horton hunter,i had a legend before using stock aluminum horton bolts and these muzzys shot 4 deer with the same bolt and broadhead bad to the bone ..i read somewhere about expandables not working well with the crossbow the string hitting the bolt effects the opening of them

personally...i would at least try the broadheads you have before buying others, i mean...why spend the money if what you have will work ok with your xbow?
should they prove to have a problem opening on targets you definately wouldn't want to take them in the woods, if thats the case...you couldn't go wrong changing to muzzy's.
they are one broadhead thats hard to beat

I bought my first crossbow when Bowhunter's Warehouse was in business(a Horton). Couldn't get any fixed broadheads to group well and they even told me that when I got it. I went to Spitfires and am VERY pleased with the results.(they told me the expandables would fly better and they did). I killed five deer with the SAME bolt and SAME spitfire broadhead, having only to re-sharpen the blades. Finally broke the tip on the fifth deer. My local archery shop did a lot of testing and found that 22" bolts flew better and would work well with the 100gr Muzzy. I tried them and found that the 20" bolts with spitfires flew almost exactly the same as the 22"bolts with the Muzzy's. I have since gone to carbon bolts(from aluminum) and now exclusively use Spitfires.(100gr) pps, what part of the state are you from??

gully:
Thanks for the advice. I love my spitfires. Have killed 15+ deer here in 2B with the Spitfires and have never had one problem I will practice with them also out of my crossbow.
I grew up in the Cresson area outside Altoona and live outside Pittsburgh going on 18 years now.
Better hunting all around here but the allure of being alone in the hills is what I like. Still hunt back there for spring gobbler and a couple of days during rifle so my son can experience the comraderie of our family.
I will let you know how my broadhead tests go.
