just a thought, what is your opinion on the legalization of the use of dogs to help track and find wounded game.my opinion is, it should be legal in pa.(its not)anything we can do to keep from loseing a wounded animal is good for our sport.

rs, I completely agree. It makes no sense to not use them, they are an especially effective tool in rainy weather, they can smell an unseen blood trail. Most are used on lead anyway so I can't understand the arguements against it, not to mention all they have to do is make it so you call the GC prior to making a track, if you're caught tracking w/o permission, a fine would ensue.

the regulations states it is illegal to HUNT deer ,bear or elk using dogs. It say nothing about using dogs to recover wounded game.
am I reading this wrong or is my interpretation just to liberal at what point does the hunting stop and the recovery begin

It is not legal to use a dog to track wounded deer, that's considered hunting deer with a dog, even though that isn't clearly stated.(Look under restrictions, pg 32: It is unlawful to use dogs to hunt elk, bears, deer or turkey) Most tracking dogs are used leashed anyway, not free running, so there shouldn't be issues with them being shot. I'm not completely sure why the PGC doesn't pass a leashed tracking law here, except for fearing people using dogs to drive game illegally and say they're tracking a shot deer??

So for the sins of a few we all must pay. I know I'm not alone when I say we owe the animals we hunt respect, and not being able to recover a wounded animal is the ultimate disrespect
