I'm taking my young female I bred, Tara to the GSP national specialty show in April 19th & 20th in KY. She's a bit young for such a big show, but seeing that she is almost a finished champion already and we recently returned from a 4 day show in OH with her taking BOW (best of winners, best of all the female and male GSPS)3 days and BOS(best opposite sex to the best of breed, beating the champion females) the last day, I figured we'd go for it!(plus she won her last show in NY) Tara is also field trial pointed and hunt test titled already and has a field trial the weekend prior to our trip to the national specialty! Please wish us luck!! (I'm nervous already .....)

Tara & I are off to the show tomorrow..... 136 females, 103 males & 110 champions entered, she's MUCH calmer than I am about it! ;D (they judge the males, then the females, then the winning female & male go back in the ring with the champions for Best in Specialty)

How did you do at the show Ann? I know you were nervous and all, but you probably did better than you thought you would.

I wish that was true!! Tara didn't get much more than a look in the regular classes(for the points), she did get 2nd in the field trial class(a special class held at specialty shows, only for dogs having field trial wins or placements), I won't have the picture for a few weeks though. It was a fun weekend though!!! I'll post a pic of some dogs in the ring later.......

Hey Ann, A second in any categorie at an event like that is awesome. Some of us have little better than a hunting companion and a friend ( which is great), but you have real quality dogs. Did she please you, I think that is what matters most. P.S. Congrats on the shows that you did well in and on the 2nd place.

The competition was TOUGH for sure, there were dogs from all over the US, from as far as California! Zippyduck, thanks for the compliment! Companion dogs are great also, one of the best dogs I ever had was a labX,rescue dog, loved that guy, smartest animal I ever had! I consider all my GSPS companion dogs, they all live in the house & several sleep in bed, spoiled brats!! ;D The dog who won the field trial class went on to get an award of merit in the best of breed judging.....only 10 dogs out of the over 340 there got them, no the second wasn't a bad placement, but I would have loved a placement in the regular class! Oh well, maybe next year.......

This is a pic of just some of the dogs going in the ring.....there are so many, you can't see the opposite fence of the ring, the judge then split the class up in groups, made cuts from there and had the cuts come back in as one group for the final judging. There are already 4 rows of dogs & handlers in this pic! Most classes were to large to judge all the dogs in the ring at one time. (something was wrong with my camera, this is the only pic that turned out! )
