I found a semi-gorged tick on my setters head... I carefully rumoved it. Should I be worried about lymes disease? Can he be tested or something??? I haven't put the frontline on yet. Located in Washington County.

Lymes is carried mostly by deer ticks, you should be OK. I haven't seen any yet here, thank goodness!! Time to start checking after every run though.

Located in Washington County. Don't feel too bad. Last week I just found 2--on my 4 year old daughter. Awaiting tests. Seems like we've had a couple of bad years for them.

About 2 yrs ago,I pulled a tick off my Lab in November.I wasn't worried as she was vaccinated and her new shots were due in January.Right after Christamas, she started to limp and I thought she may have hurt or bump her leg.On New Year's Eve day,I went to let her out and she could hardly get up on her back legs.I called my vet-he wasn't open because of the holidays.A vet down the road said bring her in. He took blood and gave her an antibiotic til the blood work came in.She tested positive for lymes. They put her on a 13 day treatment of pills(very expensive) and a prescription glucosamine(also very costly). She was doing good for about a month when she started limping again.I took her right back and put her on another 13-day treatment. That seemed to do it--for now.I also took her off the prescribed gluco and put her on Hip & Joint supplements from Petco.I'ts been working pretty well for her and it's alot less $$$. She's a carrier now and it can come back any time.Arthritis is a definite possibilty now and the vet said it most likely will take a few years off of her.So I retired her and she just enjoys the comforts of home and being spoiled now.I also stopped duck hunting when I lost my hunting buddy.Had a hard time walking out the door without her

Jimpic, look for Liquid Health Glucosamine with HCA, best stuff on the market and inexpensive. I use it on my older dogs. Liquid Health has a site, if you cannot find someone who carries it, order directly from them. Their liquid 5000 is also good, seems costly, but is VERY concentrated and will last you for 1 dog about 3-4mths. Plus they are liquid form, more metabolized.

here a couple tricks i use a liquid spray called bronco available at most feed stores and is inexpensive and really works and here's one better! feed stores sell livestock ear tags that are an insect repellent called atroban and work excellent in stopping ticks in there track's! usually the ticks wont even get to dig in! Anyway they are a triangle shaped collored tag that are punched thru the ear on livestock but dont punch it thru the dogs you simply fold the tags over and punch them together then slip them over the dogs collar thats it! it take a little while for them to really take effect usually about a week but they are the best thing ive seen and i run hounds in some tick infested ereas! work with flees, flies the works! They will last all season and you dont need to remove them unless you kennel dogs together and have chewers or if they are around children, they just should not be handled or eatin! they come in bags of twenty and cost about $24 a bag and can be bought individually! Any questions give me a yell and ill fill you in further and can send pics as well! Ive used them for years on all my dogs! Try em they work!

My dogs stay in the house. Don't know if those tags are an option. If I had them in kennels than that would be ideal.
