hey guys I'm just wondering about the breed of dog the Harrier. I was wondering if this type of dog is good for retrieving ducks, geese and bunny's. i am only 16 but i am looking for a dog for down the road in life. from what i have heard they are a bigger version of a beagle let me know about anything you guys are aware of thanks

Fergie10, Harriers are a hound, primarily used to hunt fox and rabbit in packs off horseback. A smaller type of Harrier was once used for foot hunting. Try this link, it has some info on them. They're fairly rare in the US, not sure about Canada. www.harriers.net/

check out a good Labrador retriever but make sure the hips have been certified as healthy.

so are you saying they would not be good hunting dogs on foot? Not sure, I would contact a breeder and ask them. I assume any dog can be trained to foot hunt, even ones bred to range out. I foot-hunt my field trial GSPS all the time. They adjust their range from foot-hunting to horseback pretty well.
