Took a few dogs for a run this AM, had several nice points.......all on SNAPPING TURTLES!!!! They were nesting in the fields, thank goodness they pointed them instead of checking them out, that could have been ugly! They were all large ones too, a foot or better long, found 3 total, a snapper that size could easily remove a chunk of nose. I think the dogs pointed more out of not knowing what to make of them than anything.

You gotta remember, birds evolved from reptiles, maybe they smell similar!

You gotta remember, birds evolved from reptiles, maybe they smell similar! True, I know snakes can be a problem, a lot of dogs point them, they even have snake breaking courses in some states where rattlers are prevalent.

I would never take my dog where there are diamond backs, timber rattlers are bad enough.

He is 7 months, and about 50 lbs. He pointed his first bird two weeks ago. I am getting excited about fall.

Post up a pic of him! Blue Belton, if I remember right, isn't he?? I'm counting the days until grouse also, found a great spot last year, bit of a drive but sure worth it, nothing like grouse (and woodcock & pheasant....) hunting in my book. I didn't hit one bird last year , but had a blast anyway.
