Here is a short story I just read in one of my hunting magazines. I thought I would share it with you:
"As a dog ages, some of them have a tendency to become a bit more of an independent contractor. If you think the best cover is this way, and your old dog thinks it's that way, I suppose it's not worth arguing over. And if that grouse or pheasant or Hun gets dropped at your feet instead of placed in your hand as it once was, well, is it really that important? Isn't it strange that we can't remember when we gave up trying to get them to do it right and just went along with the program?
If you have an old crusader living in your home and your heart, make sure that as the days grow shorter you don't let even one opportunity to be with them slip past. And when that last hunt -that last trip- inevitably and lamentably rolls around, as it will, take the time to chuckle and shake your head and maybe even marvel a little. Their kind won't pass this way again."
