How many here still hunt from a Traditional Deer Camp? What I mean is that you leave home and head North (usually) and spend a few days/week at Deer Camp durin First Week of Regular Deer Season (used to be called Buck Season ).
I started huntin with my Dad, Granpap uncles etc back in 1963 as a Kid in our Sullivan County Deer Camp. It was about 6-8 members back then. Now they are all dead and gone EXCEPT me. And yes, I still plan to hunt from the ole Camp till I'm gone.
Seems today less & less are going to Deer Camp anymore except durin Bear Season when I see more up then for deer.
:)Curious bout all your observations.

i live at my own camp now but MEMORIES anticipation ,getting your gear together, checking it ,checking it again. finally its time , to meet(usually at someones house) someone is always late, but there are grins and the good natured banter between a couple of the older guys begins. time to pack the cars, everything is loaded, with a few ,were only goin fer a week comments thrown in, ya fergit anythin the caravan leaves, everybody tries to stay in line, half way,the pit stop(ours was always on top of whitedeer mtn on rt 44) stretch your legs, quick trip to the bushes, time to go the final leg of the trip, were getting close now,one of the older guys sayin less then 8 hrs. not bad. were here you still awake back there. god its beautiful, even in the dark, one of the old guys reaches behind a pier and comes out with a big iron key. the door is pushed open, someone fumbles with the elect breaker and the two 75 w.bulbs light, the resident mice run for there lives. its here deer camp,,,,, GOD I MISS THOSE DAYS,,, just some ramblings from the late 50s and early 60s

Much like rs I live at "my camp" in Bradford County but I can also echo rs's comment's. I was born and raised in Montgomery County and much like others here along with my Dad and his friends belonged to a camp that is in fact about 2 miles across the valley from where we now live. Many many fond memories of days at camp are brought back when I look at pictures from those days reminiscing with our two young boys. That camp and the time spent there is the sole reason I live where I do now and I consider myself fortunate being able to raise my family in God's beautiful Endless Mountains. In 89 I decided the time had come to "spread my wings" and move on, follow my dream and "stake my own claim" so I found "my own camp" and took the plunge. We (myself, my Dad and my late Father in law) used it as a "camp" for a few years and ultimately in 93 my wife and I took the plunge and moved North to start our own family never looking back. Spending the many years at the previous hunting "camp" and this area is what installed in me the burning desire to re-locate and start a family in this area. I always thought it would be a dream to be able to walk out my door and hunt any time I wanted to rather than having to make the 3+ hour ride to camp for this purpose. While yes it can't be beat living on my own hunting grounds there is something to be said for a "hunting camp" that can't be replaced or duplicated. Old friendships rekindled, musty smells from being closed up for extended periods of time, second hand used lumpy mattresses that after a long day hunting don't matter, the things done and said that "what happens at camp stays at camp"... etc. While I would never trade what I have now for anything there are indeed times that I do miss that annual gathering and camaraderie only found at a far away hunting camp. While I still keep in touch with the "guys" from the old camp and we visit back and forth when their up there still is something I leave behind when I leave the "old camp" after visiting and head home. Something that only a hunting camp and the surrounding environment has, something hard to duplicate and/or replace. I know full well what you mean rs, I truly know my friend.

We head north the day after Thanksgiving in the evening (got to work in the morning) then we stay until tuesday or wednesday night, dependant on how much vacation time I have left. We've been doing it this way for about 18 years

I spend nearly every weekend at my camp in Kennerdell. It's not too far a drive , so it's easy to make it back and forth. There's lots of trails for hiking and biking. You also have game lands, lots of woods and the river. Looking to get a jet boat soon-- that'll add to the fun.

We head for camp Friday after Thanksgiving and don't return till the next Saturday. We're at camp every other weekend , keeping it clean , making trailes and just having fun hanging whit eachother. We are one short this year , young guy 34, crashed his truck and lost everything. We are going to take some ash's on top of the mountain and at his deer stand. You just can't beat DEER CAMP!!!
