This may rattle some feathers but what the heck.. If you are over 40 you may understand. ;D
I was born and raised in a small village of about 30 homes. We made apple butter by the kettle and over an open fire. Seems everyone had chickens or something in the back yards. Come fall everyone would get together and help one another with the butchering.. Electric didn't come to town until around 1949 so you can see things were a little rough to say the least... Long strikes for miners and steel workers were common.
Anyhow every fall the guys looked forward to everyone going to camp and this wasn't a building up north . My Grandad own a piece of ground and we would take his dump truck and my Dad's put the *High sides*and tarped on then and load everyone up and go for deer.... ( This was a heck of a lot of Dads and Kids) When we got there the trucks were put back to back and a trap hooked between then . We slept in the truck beds and had a table under the tarp betwwen the twoo trucks to eat.. A fire was started with a large kettle and veggy soup was started. Best soup I've ever eaten ... But one thing that was concsidered *rude* was to ask what kinda meat was in the pot and where it came from. that got you a slap along the head pretty quick... But I can remember one of the Dad's had to take a walk and test his gun out when we got there.. I'll let you figure out the rest of the story.. Like I said things were rough back then and money was hard to come by.. But we all had a good time... ;D ;D MM
