one thing for certain is don't ever let your sister inlaw store them for you, mine was with her while her and my brother were going through a divorce and one of them got red over spray all over the horns, head and neck hair. she had put them in garbage bags and stuck them in the garage, this is the same garage she let her sisters boyfriend paint cars in i was heated when i finally was able to get them, it took some real doing on my part but it came out ok when i was done cleaning it up.

I use wd-40. Spray on a cloth and just wipe over it lightly. I used this method on all my deer heads and my bear mount since I was told about it in 1991 and they all look like new. Also keep them out of direct sunlite for long periods at a time it will dry them out and they will start to crack.

also you can use the swifter wipes they attract lint and dust very well mineral spirits and wd-40 both have potential to damage the painted areas

being that 85% of my mounts are antler plaques and 2 % is european mounts and turkey breast mounts I can use a simple "can of air" to clean my mounts.
The stuff can be found at wally-world in the electronics department for a few bucks, and works great for cleaning mounts of the type described above.
