they will need to update the gun. the model 70 was a great gun but they sat on their behinds for to long and fell behind the other gun makers

The updated the trigger. The article said a factory 3 to 5 pound trigger. set from the factory at 3.5 pounds. That was all that really need updated IMO.

Was the 88 not the lever action designed for higher power loads?

they will need to update the gun. the model 70 was a great gun but they sat on their behinds for to long and fell behind the other gun makers IMO, the Pre-64 70's were rifle perfection. Then they got cheapened. If there was a way to replicate the pre 64, they dont have to update anything. New isn't always better, though I will say that my next rifle will be synthetic/ stainless. due to weather resistance, and accuracy.

The new Wincvhester Repeating Arms Co. Model 70 was featured on American Shooter tonight. Here are some of the changes they have made. The triger is a three lever action and is inbeded with teflon for smoother triger pull. From what I could tell it is adjustable to include overcreep. The three position safety that was deisigned in 1936 has been reengineered for smooth transitioning in all positions. Looks are the same as the old model 70.

In reply to a question, the model 88 was a lever action, i have one chambered for 308. They're a good gun, I prefer the model 70 bolt though.
