This area is located in Allegheny County not far from the Butler county border. It is located about 3 miles off of route 79 at the Wexford exit. When you get off of RT 79 go east for approx 1 mile. Turn left onto Mingo Rd. Follow the road straight and you'll come upon the State Game land Rd which will be on the left side. While driving down these roade you cant help but notice the beautiful seneray of the rolling hills with tons of wooded area. We seen alot of people parking off to the left side of the road and decided to park at the rifle range which is closed due to the removing of 50 years worth of lead thats in the back stop. The first thing I noticed as we pulled into the range, was how clean and orginized it was. Being as excited as I was to hunt I still noticed that the place also was handicap accessible and has great access roads. The access road we took had us breathing a little hard by the time we reached the top field. The layout of this area is really nice. they have patches of fields for pheasant, grouse, and rabbit. Bettween fields they either had large brush rows or tree lines that offer good squirrel and deer hunting. I noticed that this area was full of oak trees and alot of thickets that look like theyed be overlooked for hunting. While small game hunting we ran into to alot of people pheasant hunting but no deer hunters eventhought theres deer sign everywhere you walk. Overall Id have to say this is a great place to hunt and I may actually come back for the regular rifle season but since this is area 2B you could only use shotgun, muzzleloader, bow, or crossbow.
