how many of you hunters scout next years buck after the season is over,i know alot that do and it might just help you put your tag on mr big.revealing alot of sign that went unknown during the oct/nov season..you may discover where he was bedding etc as the cover changes up..you can crossrefrence old and new trails on where to setup next fall..

i dont scout as much as i should... but i guess thats a price ya pay when your 15 & cant get to where you hunt w/o at least a ride to your grandparents (then youre still talkin a 2 mile walk down the road to get to the woods)

I scout year round but being mostly a bow hunter I'm careful about what scouting reveals immediately after the gun season is over. I have to take into consideration what the added pressure has done along with the changing food sources and how this can relate to their patterns during Archery season. Patterns can change drastically from Archery season and rutting activity to during the firearms season when hunting pressure is high. Trails that are used as escape routes in December may see little if any use in October and early November.
Bottom line is tho that any scouting helps one increase their knowledge of their hunting area along with the habits of the Deer. You can never know enough in my mind.

I setup the cam at a bait pile on a well traveled trail to do a deer survey. I also document other well used trails,, tree rubs, bedding areas, food sources.
