"Sport is a physical activity involving large muscle groups, requiring strategic methods, physical training and mental preparation and whose outcome is determined, within a rules framework, by skill, not chance. Sport occurs in an organized, structured and competitive environment where a winner is declared."
Yep. Nascar is a sport.
Unless you sat in a race car, without air conditioning, on a 100 degree day, in an insulated fire suit, for over 4 hours, driving 190 miles an hour, into hellacious turns that produce the g-forces to rearrange your inerts, working the steering wheel against a machine that wants to slide out from under you in one turn and doesn't seem to want to turn in the next, 6 inches away from another guy going through the same thing, knowing that a split second of loss of concentration of you or any one of the other 42 guys out on the track with you, could result in you and others slamming into a concrete wall....then I wouldn't criticize the 43 guys that do it every weekend.
Ernst Hemingway quote:
"Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games."
