Despite no break in the darn heat wave I finally caved in and went out Saturday morning, 10/6. Didn't bother prior to this with it so hot and all and honestly shouldn't have wasted my time Saturday either.. ..but just hate the thought the season in and not getting out. Was even too stinking warm at 4:30 when I woke up but stuck with the plan and got ready. Despite dressing as light as possible and almost crawling to my stand I walked so slow, I was soaked with sweat dripping off of me by the time I was 3/4 of the way to my stand. Mosquito's and flies didn't waste time pesting either and I saw no Deer, 1 Red tree rat but heard plenty of Turkeys all around me. Some were within about 75 yds but with the woods being so thick I couldn't see them. Did find encouraging sign on the way home. On the trail this stand is on about 50 yds from the stand I found an extremely fresh good sized rub. Fresh enough that the rubbed area was still seeping bright and shiny and the removed bark laid fluffy on top of the ground cover so it was likely less than 24 hours old. Tells me there's one "boy" frequenting this area but in this heat he's more than likely prowling after dark when it cools down. Didn't waste time with a PM hunt at all. Sure hope this heat wave breaks soon...
