There are a number of really nice bows out there these days at good prices. Along with the Bear and Martin lines, don't forget the Parker, Reflex, some of the new Pearsons are really nice bows retailing under 500. If you are close to a Gander Mountain, they now have a bowline with their name on it made by Bowtech/Diamond. These are very nice bows at a very nice price point. Bass Pro has their XP line of bows, I believe they are still made by Reflex (at least they were). I know there are more in this class, I just can't remember them all right now. I think the nice thing about the Reflex line up is that there is a model there to suit anyone's shooting style. ( Doesn't hurt that they are built by Hoyt, either ;D )

Your going about it all back-wards. Haven't you heard that "it's much easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask permission"....

buy the best bow you can afford. remember price isn't everything, performance is. absolutely correct. However, I think the whole point of the thread is that for those on a very tight budget who can in no way afford a bow running 700 or higher, there are a great number of bows out there that do perform very well, with the same warranty, often by the same manufacturers, for a great deal less money. Many times, the only thing you give up are a few fps. I'm not talking about cheap equipment, I am talking about inexpensive equipment. Ted

How many bows are there in the sub-$500 range? Probably well over 100 if one is willing to keep looking. And I might be willing to set that price to $400 or less. There are so many bows out now that often the biggest difference between $400 and $700+ is just the machining of the riser. Many of the other parts are the same.

Just wanted to chime in here with my .02 cents!! All the bows mentioned are good bows! IMO You need to shoot them to see which fits you the best!!! I am really shocked that nobody mentioned Mathews offbrand Mission! I have been checking out the X3 myself! It is $350! I don't have a lot of money to spend myself! I have the Hoyt Trykon, Power-Tec, & Striker! I have been a dedicated Hoyt owner for years now!! But I don't consider them the best until I shoot them to see how they fit ME! In my opinion over the years the best bow I have owned would be the XI Legacy!! If they would not have had problems I would have probably stuck with them! Also I had a Jennings Buckmaster when they first came out and out of all the bows I have owned over the past 20 some years that was the quietest and smoothest shooting bow out of them all and I have owned bows from just about every company out there with a few exceptions!!! Not tring to start a debate here , just rambleing and giving my opinion!!! Just really surprised nobody mentioned Mission!!!

Mission bows are very good . I got the Mission journey a few weeks ago for $499. I shot a Ross ,mathews S2& switchback xt . The journey felt very much the same to me . for $150 less . Definitely would consider that x3 if money is real tight .
