The addressed very few needs. The lost a perennial all pro and future hall of fame guard, the line was terrible last year, so on day 2, they draft a converted tight end. The first pick was at a position where they have a Pro Bowler locked up for a few more years. The second round was good. They need a tall receiver, but he is contact shy, so that just wont work in Pittsburgh. I hope they keep Cowhers number around for 2009.

The addressed very few needs. Not sure why, this always seems to be the case in Pittsburgh. Poor to mediocre draft performance.

THought it was a great draft. Got a very good running back, with much more power to complement Willie, if not take his job in a few years. Mendenhall is a beast im tellin ya. Pittsburgh made out like a bandit on that one.
Also got a tall receiver which is a very nice luxury. The best reciever of the draft falling late in the 2nd round. Cant beat that, and would be crazy to pass up for a third rate linemen or an extreme gamble on an unknown, which was basically what was left at that time.
Good pick in the 2nd imho especially when your tallest and best receiver is 5'11" and in his thirties. You got Holmes which has real potential and speed but him alone with ward cannot carry the teams recieving. Also, many of the sacks Ben was getting was due to coverage and recievers not getting open. This guy will give Ben a big guy who can go up for the ball when he needs to get rid of it quicker. When most of the cornerbacks in the league are from 5'10 - 6' tall, gotta love a tall reciever!
The better linemen were gone by the time they picked. They certainly werent gonna rebuild the entire line with just the draft anyway. Which is nearly what they need. They'll have a better blocking back in Mendenhall to help the line out on some pass downs also, not to mention a few guys may be obtained freeagency. Also some guys I believe have more potential than theyve yet shown, like Max Starks.
Their schedule this year is gonna be rediculous! Playing New England, Indy, Jacksonsville, Giants, Cowboys, basically ALL the playoff teams from this past season!

After a few preseason games here, I'm feeling a bitbetter about the draft. mendenhall is ereally looking good, Russell as well....always good to have some more depth at RB and trying to fill those shoes left vacant by #36 .....Sweed will be a tall force to reckon with at WR. Still inconsolable about losing Sepulveda for the season, but atleast the replacement is looking decent and seems capable of kickoffs when needed, it would be nice to not have to use Reed on kickoffs, save that foot for putting points on the board. Ahhh....just a couple weeks to go now. Go Black and Gold!

YEah, think things look good. Mendenhall had a few fumbles, just sloppy preseason rookie mistakes. Otherwise, i see the potential. Also need to keep in mind the pretty poor line he has to block for him as far as yardage gains thus far, though still not bad. As for Sweed, woulda liked to see him playing with first team, but think hes gonna pan out too, soon.
I agree with ya about ol #36. Shame guys like that are as rare as hens teeth...Pure power back at 250 lbs plus, shoulders wider than two men, with nimble feet. Aint seen that kinda running back in that caliber before or since.
Line is still a concern, but watcha gonna do?
Defense is a bit pourous. Like to see them stiffen up. Think its time for Timmons to start at linebacker, looked to be a bright spot.
Secondary is huge questionmark imho. Defensive line should be better this year with Aaron smith back.
