I just got a Horton crossbow and noticed how loud it is compared to my compound. I got arthritis in my shoulder and had to go to the crossbow. I know the crossbow is so much faster but was wondering about quieting it down some. I was thinking of cat whiskers and some limb savers. Is it worth the investment or shouldn't I worry about it because the crossbow is so much faster.

First let me say most crossbows shooters perceive the noise as much louder because of vibrations and where your head is placed on the stock. as for FPS most shoot in the low 300fps range or less , about the same as the hi-tech compounds used today and neither are faster than the speed of sound. You can try string and cable silencers , you can use simms products on the arrow retainer clip and the foot cocking stirrup but you will never make them quiet. JMO

Crossbows ARE louder than vertical bows. Take a quick look at the string length vs. the load on the system....crossbows are louder.
That said...I've tried a coupla different dampers...I found that the BowJaks dampers work very well. While the reCon is fairly quiet by nature....it still has some twang to it. I put two BowJaks dampers...one on the inside of each limb...as far out as I could get them.... The reCon has been quieted to a dull thud.
I bought another pair to try on a very noisy older bow...haven't done it yet !!
I recommend them. Look at their web site. They have many to choose from.
