I NEED YOU IDEAS,INPUT AND SUGGESTIONS. I AM GOING TO START A HUNTING AREA FOR DISABLED HUNTERS AND HANDICAPPED CHILDREN. I WILL BE LOOKING AT AQUIRING 125 ACRES. THIS SITE WILL BE 5 ACRES OF PARKING,LODGING AND MAINTENANCE BUILDING.. THERE WILL BE INDIVIDUAL ROOMS WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL.. I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME WE HAD A PLACE THAT DAD'S AND THEIR KIDS CAN HUNT IN A SAFE ENVIOREMENT. IT IS SO HARD TO FIND ACCESSIBLE LAND FOR SOME OF US WITH WALKING,BREATHING AND OTHER HANDICAPS... I HAVE ENGINEERS THAT WILL HELP IN DEVELOPING GUN RESTS AND OTHER ACCESSORIES THAT WILL IMPROVE SHOOTING WEATHER IT'S A CROSSBOW OR RIFLE..... ALL TRAILS WILL BE FLAT AND WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE,THERE WILL BE PERMANENT BLINDS FOR WHEELCHAIRS AND WALKERS THIS IS IN THE BEGINNING STAGES... ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED I WILL ALSO START A NON-PROFIT FOR HELP TO COLLECT PRIVATE FUNDING FOR THIS PROJECT. THANK YOU FOR YOU ASSISTANCE IN THIS PROJECT.... JOHN

John, I'm a poor man with a family if I could afford donating money that would be a great fund to be part of. John that is amazzing you would really do that for disabled people or anyone. That is going to take alot of money /time . I hope your up to it..If I could do anything to be a part of that it would be great. I live 2 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh. Where would you be doing this ?

John, I wish I could be of more help financially but I'm not in that position right now. I will offer to guide or be assistant for hunters once this gets off the ground and I know my wife would love to help as chef or cook or organize the kitchen.
For the past few years I've been helping on a handicapped hunt in upstate NY on a 1500 acre private preserve. All bow hunters and the owner (one of the wealthiest men in NY) opens it up to the NY State Handicapped bow hunters organization. Hunt is for Whitetail, Elk and some Exotics and it's a blast. A great friend of mine is Chairman of this organization so naturally I got involved and have been helping as with equipment set up and then once the hunt starts I help as guide and assistant. They take applicants for this hunt as it's on a limited basis and last year we had 11 hunters in camp including a fellow who lost his sight serving in Iraq. He shot a bow using a Lazar sight and his buddy would whisper sighting directions in his ear.
No firearms or cross bows have been used, all re-curve and compounds and you should see the harvests. Last year in 2 full days of hunting one fellow put down 6 Whitetails, 1 Buck and 5 Does. Last year on Friday night I was able to bugle in a nice 5 x 5 Bull Elk for my hunter but he wouldn't close inside of 40 yds and my hunter wasn't comfortable taking that long of a shot.
The camp accommodations are nice with heated bunkhouses (3 of them) and a nice eating hall and the cooking is done by a 5 star chef and his crew. If you go away hungry it's your own fault. It's a blast helping and I love it, such a blast that although typically this hunt is the same weekend as our Archery opener here in Pa. I still have no hesitations about missing our opener to help here and will do so as long as they will have me.
My Buddy who Chairs the NY organization has a lot of experience in hunts and activities etc. for the handicapped and he's already told me he's available to help in any way he can. He actually was in the March (I think) issue of Field & Stream. Their writer followed him around in the field and at home for a week to do an article on a disabled hunter. He's a quadriplegic so he has no use of his legs and very little use of his arms but yet still shoots a compound bow from his wheel chair. A machinist friend of his made a devise to hold the bow that is breath activated and controlled and he uses a draw lock to hold the bow at full draw. He takes numerous Deer like this each and every year, has taken a Bear in Canada and hunts all over.
Let me know how I can help more my friend.
Jeff
