I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ALL MY OTHER HANDICAPPED HUNTER'S,TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU ARE DEALING WITH YOUR CONDITION AND HOW WE CAN HELP EACH OTHER DURING HUNTING SEASON..I CAN NO LONGER USE A SHOTGUN BECAUSE OF SHOULDER SURGERY'S. I DON'T KNOW HOW MY BACK SURGERIES ARE GOING TO AFFECT ME THIS YEAR. WITH ALL MY PROBLEMS I AM HOPING MAYBE THAT SOME OUT HERE CAN OFFER SOME SUGGESTIONS....

John--with back surgeries / fusion's it's hard to deal with the pain . Just becareful what you do . For me walking /standing or sitting to long wipes me out . I signed up for a disability parking permit that allowes me to hunt state game lands for handycap folks like us . My pain is here to stay and I excepted it , but I do get out , not much but some . Your body will tell you when enough is enough. Just take your med's as persribed and try to walk as much as possible . Don't let anything rust up . Ridge

I've had 13 hip surgery, 5 back surgery, knee surgery, 2heart surgery, stints in the legs, and the right leg has been left 4" shorter with no hip joint. I can say do what ever it takes to move .At 60 years old if I need pain meds to do something I take them. I mow about 10 acres have a garden and I need to do it . If I sit a worry about my health I'd be nuttier than I am.
I will say two things that have made life easier for me is my building of rifles and sites like this one on the E-net. My hat is off to this place and the people in it I spend a lot of "rough nites" reading here. Thanks folks for including the Disable here at this site.
I would like to ask "How many here are Disabled Vets?" And does anyone use the V.A. hospitals? Cheers, Bill

since my brain surgery last august to remove a plum sized tumor i've lost my hearing in my right ear....with the nerve damage from the tumor and surgery i also lost my repetitive motion on my right side which i can no longer brush my teeth or shave with my right hand, run or jog, i walk as though i'm drunk staggering side to side....the right side of my face is paralized and my right eye doesn't blink any more and have to keep cleaning snot from it and eyedrops at least 15 times a day....it's hard to walk through the woods for any lengh of time longer then 5/10 minutes before resting for 20 minutes....can't pull my bow back cause of weakness from the nerve damage on my right side, i have the PGC xbow permit for my doctor to fill out this friday the 5th at my follow up appointment....for now i'm not dependent on a walker or wheelchair to move around, took me 6 months to learn how to walk and eat all over again....i know alot of people out there worse off then me and i do feel there pain just knowing what i've been through so far and not knowing what's ahead in the future....i'm only 46 this october 21st and never spent a day in my life in the hospital till last year for 11 days after a 10 hour surgery and 3 days in I.C.U....all this in a Philly hospital with no one able to travel from northeast PA to visit me till i was discharged, talk bout a long 11 days....lol....now going through the red tape with socical sercurety going on a year and a half now....but hey i'm still here....thanks all for reading my words....................bob

Bob - Don't give up on SSD , I filed in July and was approved right away, what a relief , we were so far behind on our bills , I was so scared of loosing my home and I also have a teenage daughter that we all know are expensive ...Have your Dr. fill out a nice report on your condition and how it effects your life and don't forget to tell them about how your medication effects your every day life..
x-bow too huh ? I just send my application to use a x-bow into PGC so I hope I'll have it soon. Good Luck with everything and get better...

thank god with my nerve damage i don't need any medication....i just have no stamina or strengh to do anything fer any long term....it takes me 3 hours to cut my 1/2 acre grass lawn with a new push mower then i have to go lay down i'm so wiped out, but wind up falling asleep fer 4 to 5 hours....i even take a break when the mower runs out of gas and let it cool down fer bout 45 minutes before filling up and finishing the lawn....a trip to walmart to shop fer grocerys is a chore even there only fer an hour, 25 minute ride each way....by time i'm home and done putting away the food i'm done fer half the day also....my daugthers wedding this past oct 13th was a marionthon race fer me, turned out great and of course i'm glad i lived to walk my baby down the asial....proudest day of my life so far since her birth 24 years ago....amazing how something like this slaps ya in the back of the head and screams in your ear "wake the hell up and be glad ya can still breath and walk" that ya never realize how fortanate people really are before anyting like this happens to them....i know i took alot fer granted that i will never again, like just able to walk a straight line without any help from anything like i can't do anymore by myself....walking throught the woods, rocks, hills and through a trout stream would feel so nice bout now....thanks fer letting me ramble on so my advice to alot of people is "slow down enjoy life, ya might not wake up tommorrow" at the very least when ya jump outta bed ya might miss the floor ..................bob ....

Bob , My daughter ( oldest) was married in June of this year.. I too walked my daughter down the beach , she was married at Ocean City Maryland.. It was hard keeping the tears from flowing I'll tell ya . I also have nerve damage , from a spine injury. Not as bad as yours but enough to slow me down to. Yep just take it nice and slow , time flies so fast as we get older.
