We sure had a great day is such a beautiful area. I thought it was just going to be some little game lands since it was so close to cranberry and between pittsburgh. As we dorve down the state game lands rd. I couldnt help to notice how big the place actually was and its stunning rolling hills and valleys. We decided to park at the rifle range which is still closed due to them cleaning out all the lead from the back stop. This place had the nicest range ive ever seen at a state regulated area. As we started the hunt we walked up a hill overlooking the range. To are right we walked a small patch of some type of wheat when I kicked out a rabbit but wouldnt shot since he was running down hill towards the parking lot. With no luck flushing the field we went back towards th access road when we meet up with another hunter and his german short hairs. We all walked up the hill together bsing untill we reached the top of the hill and our first larger field. We hunted the first field with him them left on our own since we were hunting all small game and not just birds. We went and tried another field with no luck flushing anything. As we went field to field we came across hunters and more hunters allready working them with no luck. We seen a couple little squirrels run across the access road while going from field to field. After hunting every field we decided to go back and rework the fields we already have done. Still not seeing a thing we decided to walk back down the hill and branch off another path. While walking down the hill we heard a gun shot down the hill. We We continued walking down the hill on the access rd. untill we reached the y wher we took another way. About 5 minutes after the first shot we reached the other access trail. we just start walking on it when another shot goes off and you could heard the pelletes going right apast us. We both dropped to the ground as the guy shot again. luckily we had a 3 foot hill the way the shots were coming from to protect us. We waited a minute. We got back up and the guy shot 2 more times when Buckslayer yelled to let the guy know we were there. We then continued down the path where we seen a woman jogging with no orange on. I thought there was an orange requirement but we stopped to read the regulation sign and it dosent take efffect until November 15th which I beleive should be any time a season is in. After walking down the pathtrying field after field with no luck we came across a house with no saftey zone signs showing. We decided to go back and up the hill again and rework the fields one more time so we did with no luck. we talked to several hunters from just about every field that was having the same luck as John and I. We decided that we were gona cll it a day and head back to the vehicles. On the way back John decided to try this one field again and wouldnt you know as he starts to walk it he flushed a pheasant. I seen him miss the first shot and was prepared for a shot if i had a clear shot with out john being in the way but John nailed him on the second shot. I went to retrive it from the brush as another hunter came over to see if we got one. We talked a bit the worked our way to our vehicles.
We had a great time just being outdoors in such an incredibally beautiful area. To me this place seems like it is hunted hard by alot of people but would defenitly go back and give it another try but it surely would be nice with dogs. Thanks john for the excellent day hunting.
