Thinking of trying some Yote calling this winter and have absolutely no experience at it so looking for any advice or tips I can get. Right now the only call I have that might work is a mouth blown fawn in distress call. Is it worth trying this type of call at this time of year, think it will interest them ? Any other tips available from anyone experienced ? I've heard to call and give it about 30 minutes or so and then move on as if they are going to come they will in a hurry so don't stick around at one spot to long ? What's better, early AM like day break or late afternoon b4 dark ? Any preferences ? Population in my area is spotty so I'll be going where we've seen a few occasionally and/or know they hang out at but pretty much setting up and calling blindly,....but just would love to give it a try over the winter. Thanks in advance.

Calling yotes is a tough process. They are vary wary and are hard to call in.
Your best bet for calling is to use howls to locate them and then use a dying rabbit call to bring them the rest of the way in. I have even had some sucess using pup yips as well.
Be just as scent concious for yote hunting as your are for deer hunting, they will 99% of the time try to come in downwind of your calling location.
Yote hunting usually is more sucessful after dark than during the daylight hours. Most of my sucess has occured just after sunset until midnight. Helps to have a partner to run the lights while you do the shooting, then switch after you get one.
hope this helps
good luck

OVERALL, your wasting your time...they have it far to easy here to bother running to anything, add to that, they are the laziest animal in the woods... lots of small game around, they love dining on wild turkey, neighborhood dogs and cats are on the menu...it's just to nice for them to bother.. can it be done, yes, you'll need to put alot of time in doing it and I mean lots for the rewards you get... your better off to try and trap em', find some guys who chase em' with dogs and tag along... anything is better that calling them... find where they are and go and sit on moon lit nights and just watch... #4 buckshot loads waiting... they are just to tough for the average Joe to bother with....BOY, when I think of the hours calling and the numbers of success earned.. it must be love !!!
