Here is some fur heading to NAFA, not all I'm holding most of it to see what the prices look like. 20 coon, 10 greys, 4 reds, 2 coyotes, 6 skunks, 1 possum, 1 silver fox. #5 cat for the year released no harm.

Nice. Particularly the cat and silver fox. I dont trap too much anymore but am an avid predator caller. Never trapped, called or seen a silver in the wild. Seen many at fox ranches. Like to get a silver fox by calling to mount. Really like those odd color phases. Nice cat too. I know where a couple have been spending a decent amount of time here in 2A the last couple of years and spending the days in one particular extremely thick thicket. The thickest patch around for a long ways, way too thick to walk thru and isnt bothered by hunter. Seen them several times coming and going from it and feel I could probably call one in there or with some time spent, wait one out in tree stand. Cant bring myself to apply for a tag and shoot one. Just started seeing them in last several years in the area and theyre just too durn purdy! ;D...Though they have been working the turkey flock over pretty good, and at any year, that may be subject to change.

Wow, very nice!!! OK, I have a question....how do you kill a skunk w/o it spraying & then clean it ?? Is there a call for their pelts?? I imagine there's a trick to handling them??

There is a trick to handling them, go slow and be careful around the tail. i tried to skin one when i was 13. my mom told me if not for the fact it was November id be sleeping in the yard. The great thing is tomato juice doesn't work but when your parents buy 2 cases of the big cans, you get to drink the good stuff while you bath in it.

Prices this year are going to be a little iffy, they had the first auction of the year yesterday and it wasn't pretty compared to last year NAFA does seem to think that February's auction will be better as traditionally this is the best auction for attendance from buyers and prices brought by the furs offered in February. I have 24 coons, 3 muskrats, 1 red fox and 2 greys at the depot for Febraury's auction. Next time you get a cat in the trap, give me a call I just happen to have a tag for one check out my sticky on fur prices as I have posted January's auction prices there.

I dispatch them with a 22 and let them air out for a day or two then I cut out the scent glands carefully and then skin with out any worries. Pelts usually go for 1-10 dollars.

I've been putting in for a cat tag for 4 years with no luck. That's number 15 in the past 3 years. Cats all over this area.

I haven't applied for a cat tag yet, but I agree that they are all over near us. I have seen them in Black Moshannon, Snow Shoe, and Karthaus.
