Crossbows are now included for use in the regular archery season with the caveat of no magnifying sights. Do you think that will diminish the allure of crossbows?

JMO The crossbow is a short range weapon , although a scope does have its advantages for pinpoint aiming the pin sights are just as accurate as any pin sight on a vertical bow. The disadvantage i see is that most crossbow pin sights only come with one pin , but i am sure with a little ingenuity most will be able to work around that.

It still doesn't shut the door on all sights. Most red dot sights will still be legal as will hologram type sights. I have a very strong astigmatism and had to stop flint hunting because even with glasses I can either focus on the sights or on the target, but not all three and cannot hit the same POI twice in a row. My present crossbow scope is a Horton multi reticle and I believe it's a four power. I have but two choices if I am to continue to archery hunt: get a red dot or hologram scope, or break the law and continue to use my Horton scope. I find it extremely narrow minded that the BOC couldn't realize situations like this and approve accordingly. Another strange approval was that the crossbow will be good for only five of the six weeks of fall archery (not legal for the week of inlines) and that it can't be used at all after Christmas ( unless I read the stuff wrong). Am I glad for the approvals? Sure, even though it didn't effect me having a disabled permit. Moreso, I'm glad it's basically over. Now time will tell the results, as opposed to all the supposed results both sides claim.

Is the no magnification just for non disabled hunters or do all have to adhere to the new regs

It's my understanding there are now NO PERMITS since crossbows are legal everywhere! The BOC threw the little anti-crossbow club the no scopes to sooth the pain of inclusion and to also put it to the crossbow hunter! How many 1000's of hunters with permits & in SRA's will now have to re-tool to hunt! Glad to see inclusion!!! Too bad the BOC didn't have the intestinal fortitude to support their original bill!!!

again the pgc shows they haven't a clue of how things work. come to think of it the only thing they are sure of is they have their heads up their, let's just say where the sun doesn't shine.

I can't believe that they did not let us disabled and old permit hunters use a scope, I just got a new one for christmas with a 4x that I could have gotten without anything $75 cheaper, The scope helps me see but it does not let me shoot any farther than 30 yards. So imo its Why worry about the handicapped, we will get more money this way!!!! Will we get our Dr visit cost and permit fee back now? Sure we will!!!!!
Good Luck, Stan

JMO and not starting anything or pointing any figures. I am happy that the crossbow fellows finally got there wish and that it opened up more opertunitys for those who wish to take it on. However all the complaining now about not being able to use magnifying sights is a joke! It goes to the old saying give a man an inch he wants a foot! Really for the cost and siplisity of putting another sight on is very minnor for a weapon that was fought so hard for to be legalized. I say be happy deal with it and let it rest! JM 2 cents

the reality of it is the use of a scope will do little to change how far you can shoot one. if your crossbow shoots only 30 yards accurately putting a 200 power scope on won't change a thing.

I was going to get a scope this year to replace my red dot but I guess I won't now. The problem with the red dot is that it is too bright early morning and evening. I have it turned down to it's lowest setting. It blots out the vitals at that time of day

Dont replace any scopes just yet. I understand this issue is going to be revisited at the next BOC meeting.
