My neighbor has a PSE viper crossbow that he's selling and I'm interested. has quiver--6bolts--4xscope + optional red dot sight-- manual cocking rope-- sling. He got a 7pt with it last season so i know it was being used to hunt. He wants to upgrade and wants to sell this one first. I don't kn ow a whole lot about crossbows. Is there anything I should look at before I buy???

I'd google up the brand and somewhere you should find a consumer report area. Read what actual owners have said. Be consious of mechanical problems, and customer service ratings. PSE as a company has been around a while and I would think they build a fairly good product. Also on thier site, you should get and idea of what it was worth new. Me personally, I don't buy any bow or crossbow priced at more than 60% of new, unless it's never been out of the box. Just checked their site and they do not make a Viper crossbow ( could be a discontinued model) they make a Tactical one, a Copperhead, and a Sidewinder, although they do make some accessories with the Viper name.

I googled searched and found a few vipers listed from 275 to 400 I think the viper copperhead has more draw poundage. My neighbor is asking 200 for everythig I listed.

That appears to be a very good price. Like Gullythumper stated do some research on that particular crossbow. Physically check it to assure no cracks in the limbs, loose nuts and bolts. Check the safety and assure it's working properly. I'd test fire it to assure it truly meets your standards. Good luck!

Price is fair for what you're getting. PSE not known for crossbows but all the gear adds up fast. I'd want to know why he feels the need to upgrade since he did shoot a deer with it. Top brands include Bowtech, Excalibur, Parker and Ten Point (in alpha order).
