i have both , prefer the encore ,one of the problems with the older contenders was if you cocked it than left the hammer down you had to break it open before you could cock it again i dont know if that has been improved on the new g2 and contender or not.but in time to come i will have only encores.

Another difference is the thickness of the frames. The contender is thiner then the encore. They say they had isues with the frame on the older contenders cracking. I have a 35 rem contender and never had any issues.

The replacement for the Contender is the G-2 looks simular to an Encore, but stronger than the old Contender I have about 18 Encores, Contenders and G-2's Most all of mine have custom barrels OTT, MGM, and Bullberry. Anymore I would rather hunt with a pistol than a rifle. I live in Delaware, and I hunt in Maryland. My daughter moved to Pa so I guess I will be getting a Pa license. What is the cost of a Pa non resident license? In delaware they have a pistol season a week in January and I use my 308 in Maaryland for deer do they allow pistols in Pa? Lou
